SocietyEvery fifth entrepreneur working in the hospitality sector is willing to invest in further automation to meet the growing market demands. These data were obtained by "Rostelecom" after analyzing the level of digitalization among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in this industry. The company conducted a survey among owners of hotels, glamping sites, hostels, apartments, recreation bases, and sanatoriums across all federal districts of Russia, which revealed clear industry standards for technological equipment.
The main trend was a comprehensive approach to implementing technologies for launching and developing businesses. More than 70% of surveyed SMEs use four or more digital services simultaneously, reflecting a new level of technological maturity in the hospitality sector. The most advanced in terms of the number of solutions per enterprise were SMEs from the Far Eastern, Southern, and North Caucasus federal districts.
Data from "Rostelecom" also showed that among the main goals of SMEs in the hospitality industry are attracting customers, optimizing costs, and efficient personnel management — 60% of respondents are ready to implement technologies to solve these and other business challenges. Basic digital services have already become standard: Wi-Fi is installed in 86% of accommodation facilities; telephony is used in 64%; digital television is connected in 62% of industry representatives.
Other in-demand digital tools include electronic document management (74%), online booking systems (72%), and property management platforms (PMS) (42%), which help reduce administrative workload, increase direct sales, and improve service quality. These tools are integrated into the comprehensive specialized solution "Rostelecom" — "Digital Hotel," a platform for automation, operation, and management of hotel complexes of various formats, from guest houses to apartments.
Timofey Abramenko, Vice President for Product Development and SME Relations at "Rostelecom": "The hospitality sector is one of the most rapidly developing industries in Russia, and the level of technological penetration among SMEs here is quite high. Our research clearly demonstrates a prevailing trend: basic services have become the minimum requirement, and using more than four solutions is now the new standard for a technologically equipped, competitive business. Overall, technology has significantly expanded the opportunities for starting a business, enabling faster launches and scaling. Therefore, "Rostelecom" develops practical solutions that consider the needs and specifics of businesses, help entrepreneurs grow and develop, and contribute to further qualitative changes in the segment."
The increase in technological maturity within the SME segment is becoming a nationwide trend. According to "Rostelecom," companies in the fields of medicine, IT, and online commerce are also leaders in adopting digital services. The growth of SME clients in the first half of 2025 increased by more than 10% compared to the same period last year, with the medium-sized business segment showing the highest dynamics (around 18%). The average check for technological solutions from such clients increased in 2025, and the number of services per enterprise doubled. This indicates deep penetration of technology and growing trust among entrepreneurs in digital services, confirming the trend toward conscious and comprehensive use of technology for business development across all sectors.
