The Rospotrebnadzor management closely monitors bathing waters.

The Rospotrebnadzor Management annually inspects water bodies used for recreation at the beginning of the bathing season to ensure compliance with sanitary norms and regulations, issuing appropriate Sanitary and Epidemiological Conclusions. Based on the results of laboratory water quality tests conducted as of July 25, 2025, swimming is permitted at the beaches of the following water bodies: Pestichnoye Lake, Dubrovny settlement (Sormovsky district); Svetloyarskoye Lake, both beaches (Sormovsky district); Lunskoe Lake, Kopsovo settlement, Lunskaia street (Sormovsky district); Bolnichnoe Lake, Moskovskoye highway (Kanavinsky district); Mescherskoye Lake, Meschersky boulevard (Kanavinsky district); Sortirovochnoye Lake, both beaches (Kanavinsky district); Silikatnoye Lake, both beaches (Leninsky district); Permyakovskoye Lake, Permyakova street (Autozavodsky district); Lake in the “777 Years of Nizhny Novgorod” Park, Lvovskaya street (Autozavodsky district); PKiO 1st phase, Smirnova street (Autozavodsky district); PKiO 2nd phase, Molodezhny avenue (Autozavodsky district).

Which water bodies are not suitable for safe swimming?

      1. Water bodies with fences or "No Swimming" signs.

      2. If ducks, geese swim in the river, lake, or pond, or seagulls fly around, such water bodies are unsuitable for human swimming. Waterfowl release larvae into the water that can cause cercariasis, presenting as skin reactions and subsequent allergic dermatitis.

      3. Surface blooms on the lake, with abundant algae near the shore. Such ponds can host various intermediate parasite stages (e.g., adolexaria), which animals ingest at watering places, and when consumed undercooked, can cause parasitic infections such as cestodes of various types.

      4. If agricultural land or a landfill is nearby, surface runoff can carry biogenic pollutants like helminth eggs (ascarid, taeniid, echinococcus), cysts of lamblia, Escherichia coli, salmonella, and other pathogens, making them unsafe for swimming.

      5. Presence of industrial enterprises or highways nearby can introduce heavy metals into the water through stormwater runoff, which are toxic to the human body. It is important to remember that these dangers are present not only in stagnant but also in flowing water bodies.

In water bodies where swimming is prohibited, the water is not tested.
