Fraudsters are spreading fake videos allegedly featuring Gleb Nikitin, the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region.
The Nizhny Novgorod government warned that malicious actors created a video depicting the regional head using neural networks. The "news" pertains to a current issue for Nizhny Novgorod residents—flight delays at Nizhny Novgorod airport.
Previously, detractors repeatedly created fake accounts in the name of Nikitin and produced several similar counterfeit videos.
Additionally, the mayor of Nizhny Novgorod, Yuri Shalabaev, the Chairman of the City Duma, Evgeny Chintsov, the regional Minister of Ecology, Vladimir Tuzhilin, and many other local politicians were targeted.
