Society: Rospotrebnadzor for the Nizhny Novgorod Region has updated the list of water bodies in the capital of the Volga Federal District where swimming is permitted.
The list now includes Pesticnoe Lake, Svetloyarskoye Lake (both beaches), and Lunskoe Lake in the Sormovsky district. In the Kanavinsky district — Bolnichnoye, Mescherskoye, and Sortirovochnoye (both beaches). In the Leninsky district, Silikatnoye Lake has been deemed safe (both beaches). In the Avtozavodsky district — Permyakovskoye Lake, the water body in the "777 Years of Nizhny Novgorod" Park, and two lakes in the Culture and Recreation Park (on Smirnova Street and Molodezhny Avenue).
The authorities reminded that swimming in other water bodies that have not been inspected can be dangerous.
These include areas fenced off or marked with "Swimming Prohibited" signs, as well as water bodies inhabited by waterfowl. These may be sources of parasitic larvae that cause skin and allergic reactions.
Furthermore, water bodies with blooming water and abundant algae, as well as those located near agricultural land, dumps, industrial enterprises, or busy roads, are considered hazardous. Such places can introduce biological and chemical pollutants into the water, including helminth eggs, bacteria, and heavy metals.
Rospotrebnadzor emphasized that water in unauthorized swimming areas is not tested.
Earlier, residents of Nizhny Novgorod complained about infection with cercariae after visiting some local beaches. It was also reported that a Nizhny Novgorod resident temporarily lost hearing after swimming in one of the nearby rivers.
