Incidents In Zavolzhye, a 21-year-old woman was a victim of phone scammers and lost 460,000 rubles. The criminals impersonated government officials and convinced the victim to transfer her savings to a "secure account." This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

Initially, the woman received a call supposedly from an employee of the "Gosuslugi" portal. He informed her about the replacement of paper medical records with plastic ones and requested her SNILS number. Later, another man contacted her, claiming to be a worker from a supervisory authority in the telecommunications sector. The scammer told her that third parties had taken out loans in her name via power of attorney.

To save her savings, the woman was advised to immediately transfer the money to a "secure account." Deceived, she followed the scammers' instructions and sent 460,000 rubles to the specified details. Afterward, contact with the "employees" was lost.

Realizing she had fallen victim to fraudsters, the woman reported the incident to the police. A criminal case has been initiated under Part 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of Russia (Fraud). The penalty for this offense can be up to six years of imprisonment. Operational measures are underway to identify and apprehend the suspects.

The Nizhny Novgorod police remind everyone: scammers use spoofed numbers that can appear identical to official organization contacts. Such numbers can be checked through search engines. Genuine bank and law enforcement officials will never ask for confidential information over the phone or request financial transactions. If in doubt, hang up and contact your bank or police in person.

It was previously reported that scammers deceived residents of Nizhny Novgorod out of 54 million rubles in one week.
