Amazing succulents for easy care and garden beauty

Succulents stand out for their low maintenance and ability to become a natural decoration for the garden. Their appearance changes with the seasons without additional care.

These plants are adapted to harsh conditions. The waxy coating on the leaves and the special structure of the stomata reduce water loss by half. A deep root system reaches water-bearing layers, and the milky sap repels pests. Even in heat, succulents efficiently absorb carbon dioxide thanks to a special type of photosynthesis.

Doctor of Biological Sciences Maria Petrova, an expert in drought-resistant crops, comments: “Succulents are an example of evolutionary adaptation. They thrive where other species cannot survive, thanks to strategies like CAM photosynthesis and a deep root system.”

Among the euphorbiaceae, or euphorbias, the following proven species can be distinguished:

Copper Fire (Euphorbia polychroma “Bonfire”) changes color throughout the year. In spring, its bushes reach 35 cm in height and have a copper-burgundy hue. Bright yellow flowers appear in May, and in autumn, even after frosts, the leaves take on chocolate-purple shades. This species is suitable for slopes and rocky areas.

Mediterranean Giant (Euphorbia characias) forms evergreen columnar bushes up to 1.2 meters high with a bluish tint. Lime-green inflorescences retain their decorative appeal for most of the year. The plant is drought-tolerant and withstands up to two months without watering.

Dark Aristocrat (Euphorbia amygdaloides “Purpurea”) features dark purple foliage with a metallic sheen. It creates a contrast with spring bulbous plants and can bloom in the shade on the northern side.

Snow Chameleon (Euphorbia marginata) is an annual plant that self-seeds. By autumn, its leaves develop a white edge, creating an icy effect.

The milky sap of succulents contains diterpene ethers, which are poisonous and may cause skin and mucous membrane irritation. It is recommended to wear gloves when working with the plant. Succulents require minimal care.
