The Social Fund of Russia reminded Novgorod residents that any attempts to illegally use maternity capital could result in criminal charges.

Certificates for maternity capital are now issued automatically, without applications from parents, in a proactive mode. This means that after a child's birth, families do not need to contact the agency. Over the past five years, 39,105 families in the region have received this support.

The decision to issue the certificate is made within five business days after the birth data is received from the registry office. Information about the readiness of the certificate appears in the mother's personal account on the public services portal. There, you can also find the amount of maternity capital and its remaining balance.

Funds can only be used for strictly designated purposes. These include purchasing or improving housing, children’s education, a savings pension for the mother (and in some cases, for the father), assistance in adapting children with disabilities, as well as monthly payments for the child.

The social fund strongly recommends staying within the law and not trusting dubious offers. Any attempts to cash out maternity capital — for example, through fictitious property purchases or payment for non-existent educational services — are considered fraud. Such actions are criminal offenses, punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Fund employees thoroughly check documents and monitor how funds are used. If suspicions arise, the information is immediately forwarded to law enforcement agencies for further investigation.

Earlier, it was reported that since the beginning of 2025, more than 4,800 certificates for maternity capital have been proactively issued in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
