      Incidents Applicants and the Admissions Committee of Lobachevsky University of Nizhny Novgorod encountered attempts of cyber fraud. This was reported by the university’s press secretary, Aleksei Nikonov.

      According to him, scammers call applicants and impersonate staff from the admissions committee. Under the pretext of a high likelihood of admission on a state-funded place, they persuade the applicants to click on a link leading to a counterfeit website that visually resembles the "Gosuslugi" portal.

      If the applicant refuses to follow the instructions, the fake representatives begin to exert psychological pressure. Threats are used, implying that the applicant will not be admitted to the university at all if they refuse.

      Nikonov emphasized that enrollment is only possible based on the results of the Unified State Exam (EGE), internal exams, or victories in Olympiads. No university requires clicking on links or pressesur ing applicants.

      The admissions committee may indeed contact an applicant, but in cases of threats or demands to click on suspicious links, the conversation must be immediately terminated, and the applicant should contact the admissions office directly.

      It was previously reported that a woman from Nizhny Novgorod tried to earn some extra money but became a victim of scammers and lost nearly 240,000 rubles.
