The hunt for a moose ended with a criminal case for a pensioner from Nizhny Novgorod.

On July 21, 2025, at 13:22 [211] Incidents In Dzerzhinsk, police detained a 62-year-old local resident suspected of illegal hunting. This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod region. The trigger for the investigation was a report from a state hunting inspector. He said that an unidentified man had obtained a moose right in the Oka River. The investigators quickly identified the suspect as a previously unconvicted pensioner. The man did not deny and confessed to the incident. According to him, he noticed the moose swimming across the river, paddled up in a boat, threw a rope around its neck, and dragged the animal ashore. Later, he attempted to ferry the already dismembered carcass to the other side, but the boat capsized, and the moose sank. A criminal case has been opened against the man. He is currently under a travel ban. It was previously reported that 48 criminal cases for illegal fishing were initiated in the Nizhny Novgorod region. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has a Telegram channel.
