Incidents Four people died as a result of a tragedy on the Pyana River in the Pilna settlement, according to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod region.
Preliminary reports indicate that a UAZ passenger car, with five people aboard, veered off the road and fell into the Pyana River. It is known that the group, consisting of three men and two women, was heading out for leisure.
Only one passenger managed to escape from the submerged vehicle. Upon reaching the shore, he asked bystanders for help and called rescuers.
Emergency responders from the Volga Region Search and Rescue Team of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia promptly arrived at the scene. The diver team recovered the bodies of four victims from the water.
All circumstances of the incident are being clarified.
Earlier reports stated that 30 people had drowned in the Nizhny Novgorod region since the beginning of summer.
