Society Member of the State Duma Anton Tkachev has proposed to require doctors to issue prescriptions in printed form. He argues that illegible handwriting by medical workers often leads to problems reading prescriptions, which in turn can cause medication errors.
Functional diagnostician and cardiologist Andrey Kondrakhin commented in an interview with the "360" TV channel that the risk of receiving incorrect medications due to illegible prescriptions is minimal. According to him, pharmacists and dispensers will not dispense medication if they cannot read the prescription. Even if they have doubts, they prefer not to risk and will not issue the drug: illegible handwriting effectively renders the prescription invalid.
Kondrakhin also noted that the problem of illegible handwriting among doctors genuinely exists, especially when issuing prescriptions becomes routine and medical professionals try to speed up the process. However, the situation is gradually changing, with more doctors switching to printed prescriptions.
In Moscow and the Moscow region, handwritten prescriptions have long been replaced with printed versions. Many clinics are also adopting digital systems, where prescriptions are linked to the patient's insurance policy, and pharmacists can access them via specialized programs.
The cardiologist is confident that, in the future, this practice will spread across the country, including remote regions. He emphasized that connecting feldsher-obstetric points to the internet is necessary to implement digitalization in these medical facilities. NIC "Nizhny Novgorod" has a Telegram channel.
