Yesterday, in the Tula region, at the beach of the "Shakhter" sanatorium located on the bank of the Oka River, an accident occurred. Lightning struck wet sand, resulting in the deaths of three vacationers. Four more people were hospitalized with injuries. Preliminary reports indicate that the deceased were barefoot on the beach and walking on wet sand during a thunderstorm.

Experts and rescuers warn about potential dangers associated with thunderstorms in open areas. Oleg Motsar, head of the State Budgetary Institution "Search and Rescue Service of the Samara Region," shared his experience with the "360" TV channel and provided recommendations for behavior during a thunderstorm.

Motsar noted that water conducts electricity, and a discharge through wet sand can be fatal. He emphasized the importance of staying under a tent on dry sand and away from bodies of water.

He also pointed out the danger of tall, solitary trees, which are likely targets for lightning strikes.

Additionally, Motsar reminded everyone to remove all metal jewelry and avoid touching metal objects during a thunderstorm. He also highlighted that lightning can have different intensities, and it is impossible to predict how far a discharge can travel.

It is worth recalling that at the AFP festival in the Nizhny Novgorod region, a young man was killed by a lightning strike while talking on a mobile phone.
