In Russia, a federal program aimed at free sterilization of pets may be launched. This was reported to the "360" TV channel by Georgiy Arapov, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Ecology, Natural Resources, and Environmental Protection.
According to Arapov, some regions already implement such measures, and he considers it important to extend this experience across the country. Such an initiative will not only help pet owners take care of their animals' health but also reduce the number of homeless animals on the streets.
Arapov emphasized that access to sterilization should be guaranteed regardless of the owners' financial situation.
The deputy also noted that the proposal has already been sent to Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology Alexander Kozlov. As of now, no response has been received from the ministry.
We remind you that programs are being implemented in Nizhny Novgorod to protect homeless animals. The charitable foundation "Compassion NN" chips about 500 pets annually that are transferred to new families, and also carries out sterilization and vaccination at the expense of municipal funds.
