
Starting July 14, the Nizhny Novgorod Forestry Department will begin issuing permits for hunting game birds.

Starting from July 14, 2025, permits for the hunting of game birds with pointing dogs and falconry birds will be issued in the Nizhniy Novgorod Region.
Permits for hunting resources can be obtained from the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife of the Nizhniy Novgorod Region.
The hunting season with pointing dogs in the Nizhniy Novgorod Region is set for the following dates:
– for marsh and meadow game – from July 25 to November 30;
– for forest game (excluding woodcock) – from August 5 to February 28;
– for field game and woodcock – from August 5 to November 30;
– for waterfowl – from August 16 to November 30.
Marsh and meadow game includes: quail, lapwing, snip, thrush, lapwing, snails, snipe, stone curlew, rooks, and small pygmycrows.
Forest game includes: black grouse, hazel grouse, Ptarmigan, and woodcock.
Field game includes: gray partridge, quail, pigeons, and turtle doves.
Waterfowl includes: geese, ducks, pochards, and reed coots.
Hunting for species listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation and the Nizhniy Novgorod Region, such as white grouse, howling crows, and shanks (large, black-headed sandpipers), is prohibited for amateurs and sport hunting.
The regional Ministry of Forests clarified that hunting for game birds with one pointing dog involves no more than three hunters, each required to carry documents necessary for hunting.

Hunters are advised that payment documents with details for paying state duties and wildlife use fees can be downloaded from the official ministry website in the "Information for Hunters / Permit Issuance" section.
It is also reminded that when fire hazard classes IV-V are declared in the region, access to forests is prohibited.
