Society In Nizhny Novgorod, twelve people sought medical assistance in June and July of this year due to burns received from contact with giant hogweed. This was reported by pravda-nn.ru.

According to specialists from the Volga Medical University, burns from giant hogweed are photochemical — they occur when the skin interacts with the plant and is subsequently exposed to sunlight.

Because of this, such cases are included in the overall group of photochemical burns, which complicates maintaining separate statistics on giant hogweed for previous years.

Fortunately, none of the injured required hospitalization — all those with burns from giant hogweed received necessary outpatient care.

It was previously reported that over 44 million rubles will be allocated to combat giant hogweed in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
