The management of Rosselkhoznadzor employees in the Nizhny Novgorod region and the Mari El Republic detected infected nectarines from Uzbekistan contaminated with the oriental fruit moth.

The shipment of fruits, weighing a total of 21 tons, was stored at the "TekhnoProm" temporary storage facility in Dzerzhinsk. Based on laboratory tests conducted by the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "VNIIZH," a dangerous quarantine pest—the oriental fruit moth (Grapholitha molesta Busck)—was identified. As explained by the management, this insect is limited in distribution within Russia and can cause significant damage to fruit crops. The pest affects shoots and fruits, especially peaches, pears, and quinces. Damaged fruits become unfit for consumption, and the trees lose their ability to grow. The pest originates from East Asia and has spread widely worldwide.

To prevent the spread of the pest, the consignee has decided to disinfect the infected batch.

The agency emphasizes the importance of complying with all phytosanitary standards when importing quarantine products into Russia. Timely detection and neutralization of quarantine objects play a key role in protecting the country's agro-industrial complex.

It was previously reported that, over six months, seven batches of infected vegetables and fruits were seized in the region.
