The forensic expert named the likely cause of death of the driver in the accident on Brinsky Street.

      On September 2, 2026, at 12:25, Incidents: In the evening of September 1, a fatal traffic accident occurred under strange circumstances on Brinsky Street in Nizhny Novgorod. A 63-year-old driver of a Toyota Camry was reversing and crashed into a pole. The man died at the scene from his injuries before the ambulance arrived.

      At first glance, the accident looks strange: judging by the footage from the scene, the car sustained almost no damage, and the pole was hardly deformed.

      Why even such a collision could be fatal was explained by a forensic expert. His words were reported by the editor-in-chief of MIA "Stationary Press," Alexey Nikonov.

      According to the specialist, during a sudden movement backward or if the driver confused the pedals, the car can quickly gain speed—up to 30-50 km/h in a second. If the pole hardly deforms upon impact, most of the collision energy is transferred to the car's body and the people inside the cabin.

      Moreover, the rear of a passenger car is usually less protected than the front. Most safety systems are primarily designed for frontal and side collisions.

      "During a sudden rear impact, hyperextension of the neck occurs, and the seatbelts mainly restrain the body from moving forward, less effectively securing it during the initial backward throw," the expert noted.

      Fatal consequences in such a collision may be associated with injuries to the cervical spine, including fractures, dislocations, and spinal cord damage. Serious injuries are also possible from hitting the head against the body pillars, glass, or objects in the cabin. This can lead to a concussion, skull base fracture, and other severe injuries.

      After the first impact, the body may be thrown sharply forward, causing the person to risk hitting the steering wheel or dashboard and sustaining internal organ injuries. Even a small speed does not guarantee safety: the severity of the consequences depends on the seatbelt, the position of the headrest, and the point of impact.
