Events for the Day of Solidarity in the Fight Against Terrorism will take place in Nizhny Novgorod.

      September 2, 2026 17:20 Society Tomorrow in Russia is the Day of Solidarity in the Fight Against Terrorism. This commemorative date is associated with the tragedy in Beslan, where on September 1, 2004, terrorists took over School No. 1. For three days, people were held hostage without water and food, in harsh conditions and under constant threat. On September 3, explosions occurred in the school, after which the operation to free the hostages began. As a result of the terrorist attack, 334 people died, including 186 children. On this day, we remember not only the victims and those affected in Beslan but also the victims of other terrorist attacks in Russia. Among them are the attacks in the Stavropol Krai, Ingushetia, Dagestan, educational institutions, the tragedy at Crocus City Hall, as well as attacks by neo-Nazis. According to the National Anti-Terrorism Committee, in 2026, 66 sabotage and terrorist acts were prevented in Russia at transport and fuel and energy complex facilities. Of these, 49 planned crimes were related to transport facilities, and another 17 were connected to fuel and energy complex facilities. A total of 150 people were detained for their involvement in the preparation and commission of these crimes. Security forces also thwarted three attempts by saboteurs to penetrate Russian territory. Today, one of the tools used by criminals has become social networks and messengers. Provocateurs are trying to incite Russians to terrorism and other serious crimes by offering money for completing certain tasks. In the Nizhny Novgorod region, preventive measures are regularly organized to inform young people about the threats of terrorism and ways to counter recruitment. As reported by the NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" in the city administration, thematic events are also planned in the capital of the Volga region by September 3 (6+). In schools, class hours and informational "minutes" are held. Students are told about the tragedy in Beslan, the essence of terrorism, and the responsibility for extremist actions. In some schools, high school students will meet with law enforcement officers. Also, on September 3, nine school teams will participate in the qualifying round of the city review-competition of military-patriotic clubs and Yunarmiya teams "Post No. 1." From September 3 to 11, students from Nizhny Novgorod universities will have the opportunity to meet with representatives of the Nizhny Novgorod diocese, the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Nizhny Novgorod region, veterans of the counter-terrorism operation in Chechnya, and participants of the Special Military Operation. During these days, city libraries will hold memorial hours, discussions, educational actions, and quests. Another event will take place on the commemorative date at the "Record" Culture Center. There, the third video contest against the ideology of terrorism "Shield of Peace" (12+) will be presented. Applications for participation can be submitted until November 4. The organizer is the Ministry of Culture of the Nizhny Novgorod region. This year, for those who wish to participate in the contest, master classes will be held in Nizhny Novgorod and the surrounding regions. Participants will be taught how to shoot videos, work with social themes, and build a script.
