The Interregional Office of Rosprirodnadzor for the Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Republic of Mordovia has completed an unscheduled on-site inspection of LLC "Arzamas Vodokanal," which operates the wastewater treatment facilities of the city of Arzamas. During the control and supervisory activities, a number of violations of environmental protection norms and requirements were recorded. In particular, exceedances of the permissible discharge standards of wastewater into the river Tyosha were identified. The results of the analysis of natural water samples in the river established a negative impact of LLC "Arzamas Vodokanal" on the water body. Violations were also identified regarding air protection and waste management. The enterprise was found to exceed the standards for the formation of waste "excess sludge from biological treatment facilities for household and mixed wastewater." The water utility is carrying out activities for its disposal without the mandatory license for sludge disposal sites, which are not included in the State Register of Waste Disposal Facilities at all. Following the inspection, resolutions will be issued regarding the legal entity and responsible officials to hold them administratively liable. The enterprise has been issued a directive to eliminate all identified violations by November of this year. Work is underway to assess the extent of damage to the water body.
