      On August 31, 2026, at 09:35, the economy of the Nizhny Novgorod region ranked 46th in the rating of Russian regions by consumer demand, prepared by RIA Novosti. The study showed that in the first half of 2026, consumer demand in Russia increased by 4.8%. Compared to the same period in 2025, the growth rate doubled. The average consumer spending per resident of Russia per month reached 52,600 rubles, which is 14% more than in the same period of 2025. Experts assessed consumer demand as a combination of retail trade turnover, the volume of paid services to the population, and the turnover of public catering. The main part was formed by retail trade, which accounted for 70% (36,800 rubles). Another 24% (12,400 rubles) came from the services market, and 6% (3,400 rubles) from the public catering sector. Compared to 2025, these proportions did not change significantly. In the Nizhny Novgorod region, consumer demand grew by 5.1%, and average monthly consumer spending per capita reached 53,000 rubles. It should be noted that by the end of 2025, the region was in 22nd place in the ranking. At that time, average monthly expenses were 50,600 rubles.
