A Nizhny Novgorod doctor explained the dangers of manicure for teenagers.
On August 16, 2026, at 10:55, Society Dermatologist Tatyana Varenova explained why manicures and decorative coatings can be dangerous for teenagers. This was reported on his Max channel by the editor-in-chief of the information agency "Statsionar-Press," Alexey Nikonov. He reminded that the new GOST prohibits manicures and pedicures for children under 14 years old. The document will come into effect on December 1. During procedures for teenagers, cutting tools will not be allowed. According to Varenova, children's and teenagers' nails remain thin, soft, and vulnerable, so gel polish can quickly damage the immature nail plate, leading to thinning and deformation. Moreover, methacrylates, which are part of chemical coatings, often cause allergic reactions in children whose immune systems are still developing. The doctor noted that cutting techniques pose a particular danger as they increase the risk of tissue infection. Varenova also pointed out the risks of excessive length and aggressive nail shapes that teenagers often strive for. According to her, this often leads to domestic and sports injuries: children, not knowing how to handle long nails, damage their nail phalanges and may accidentally injure those around them. The specialist emphasized that for this reason, the only safe option remains hygienic care without the use of cutting tools. It was previously reported that the issue of choice between parents can traumatize a child. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
