The ice arena in Nizhny Novgorod has received permission for commissioning. The construction was carried out under a concession model, with the corresponding agreement concluded between the government of the Nizhny Novgorod region and LLC "Ice Palace" (a subsidiary of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Development Corporation).

Creating and improving conditions for physical activity, as well as popularizing mass sports in Russia and creating sports infrastructure, are the main tasks of the state program "Sports of Russia," initiated by the country's president Vladimir Putin.

The governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Gleb Nikitin, noted that the new sports facility will not only become a new home for the HC "Torpedo" but also a point of attraction for Nizhny Novgorod residents and city guests.

"The new ice arena is one of the largest sports facilities in the country. With the completion of this project, a large international-level sports cluster has been formed in the capital of our region. The ice arena at Strelka is a modern sports complex that our hockey club and thousands of fans needed. In addition to hockey, this venue can also be used for concerts and other mass events. In the near future, Nizhny Novgorod residents and city guests will be able to fully appreciate our new arena," emphasized Gleb Nikitin.

The ice arena consists of a main arena with stands for 12,000 people and two training grounds for 250 people each. One of the training arenas can be used for sled hockey competitions and will be the first of its kind at this level in the country.

The adjacent territory has been paved with cobblestones, outdoor lighting poles have been installed, flowerbeds and green areas have been arranged. In addition, a parking lot for 700 spaces has been equipped.

"Building such a large-scale sports facility is truly a serious challenge. More than 2,500 people were involved in the construction of the facility. It is a technically complex object, but now it is completed, and I am sure it will delight more than one generation of Nizhny Novgorod residents," said Igor Ishchenko, General Director of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Development Corporation.

Let us remind you that the project to create the Ice Arena at Strelka in Nizhny Novgorod was approved at the federal level. During the "CIPR-2022" exhibition, Gleb Nikitin presented the model of the future arena to the Chairman of the Government of Russia, Mikhail Mishustin.

The ice arena has already received awards at the federal and regional levels. In 2023, the project was recognized as the best PPP project in the field of sports within the framework of the infrastructure award "Rosinfra." In 2023 and 2024, it became a laureate of the "Vedomosti. Impulse" award. In 2026, the facility was recognized within the framework of the XIII annual award "Sports Infrastructure" and also won in the nomination "Construction of sports and shopping and entertainment facilities" within the competition "Leader of Construction in the Nizhny Novgorod Region-2026."
