The Nizhny Novgorod economy grew by 0.8% in the first half of 2026.

On August 17, 2026, 11:11 AM, the economy of the Nizhny Novgorod region maintained a positive trend in the first half of 2026. According to preliminary data, the gross regional product grew by 0.8%, which is higher than the national average (0.3%).

As noted by the Deputy Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Yegor Polyakov, the region's economy is operating "in extremely challenging conditions." For the prompt support of enterprises, at the request of the regional head Gleb Nikitin, regular operations of the operational headquarters have been resumed.

The Deputy Governor added that the activities of the operational headquarters have likely been one of the reasons for the continued growth of the region's economy. He also noted that work will continue, and the next meeting is planned to focus on the light industry.

The most noticeable growth from January to June was demonstrated by retail trade, where the indicator increased by 5.6% in comparable prices, the IT sector by 4.2%, the agro-industrial complex by 2.5%, and manufacturing industries by 0.2%.

According to authorities, the construction, automotive, metallurgy, and oil refining sectors are exerting a restraining influence on the economy.

At the same time, as emphasized by Yegor Polyakov, the growth of the gross regional product in the region has been recorded for the sixth consecutive year and has been maintained since 2021.

"However, given the actual situation and the cautious course towards lowering the key rate, we do not expect significant economic recovery by the end of 2026. We aim to keep it in the zero zone," added Yegor Polyakov.

The work of the headquarters for ensuring the sustainability of the socio-economic development of the region is coordinated by the Ministry of Economic Development and Investments of the Nizhny Novgorod region. Inquiries on problematic issues can be directed to the ministry, relevant executive bodies, or through the feedback platform on "Gosuslugi."

It should be added that ensuring economic growth aligns with the objectives of the national project "Effective and Competitive Economy," which has been implemented in the country since 2025 at the request of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

It was previously reported that by the end of the first half of the year, the industrial sector of the region reached the level of the same period last year, showing a production index at 100.2%.
