      416 cases of HIV infection have been identified in the Nizhny Novgorod region since the beginning of 2026. A total of over 797 thousand residents of Nizhny Novgorod have been examined in the region since January, the youngest of whom is 21 years old, and the oldest is 50 years old.

      As reported by the editor-in-chief of IA "Statsionar-Press" Alexey Nikонов, HIV most often affects working men, with an average age of 42 years. The infection primarily spreads through sex (81.3%). The share of homosexual contacts in the region increased from 2.4% to 2.9% over the year. At the same time, the HIV incidence rate in the region decreased from 14.8 to 11.4 per 100,000 population over the year.

      The AIDS center linked this to the active implementation of new prevention formats, regular lectures with students, conscripts, future parents, as well as an increase in the coverage of HIV testing in medical organizations.
