Nizhny Novgorod residents were warned about new driver medical examination rules starting in 2027.
Drivers in the Nizhny Novgorod region, like motorists across Russia, will face changes in the medical examination process starting March 1, 2027. The new rules were explained to RIA Novosti by lawyer Kamila Khasanova, a member of the Association of Lawyers of Russia.
According to the specialist, the current medical control requires examinations every ten years. Starting in March 2027, drivers may be additionally referred for an unscheduled health check.
The basis for this will be the identification of signs of illnesses that hinder the ability to drive a vehicle. This may occur during a health check-up, a scheduled medical examination, or another visit to a doctor.
After this, the driver will receive a notification about the need to undergo an unscheduled medical examination. As Khasanova explained to RIA Novosti, the procedure will be allotted three months from the date of receiving the notification.
During this period, the right to operate a vehicle will remain. The referral for additional examination does not automatically mean the revocation of the driver's license.
If the motorist refuses to undergo the unscheduled medical examination, they may lose their right to drive.
If the examination is passed and there are no medical contraindications, the right to drive will be restored based on the medical conclusion. It will not be necessary to retake the exams for this.
The original material also notes that the list of medical contraindications and restrictions for driving includes color vision deficiencies, including color blindness and some forms of color vision deficiency.
Additionally, certain general developmental disorders are listed as contraindications. The list mentioned by RIA Novosti includes childhood and atypical autism, Rett syndrome, Asperger syndrome, and Heller syndrome.
The new rules will come into effect on March 1, 2027, and will also apply to motorists in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
