A 21-year-old Muscovite attempted to break into a safe with jewelry in the home of a Nizhny Novgorod resident.

On August 15, 2026, at 12:42, incidents occurred involving a 21-year-old resident of Moscow who was detained in a private house on Verkhne-Pechorskaya Sloboda in Nizhny Novgorod. The young man broke in and attempted to open a safe containing money and valuables, reported the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod region.

The incident was reported to the police by the 70-year-old homeowner. He noticed a stranger trying to open the safe with an angle grinder.

According to law enforcement, the intruder entered the house through a window on the first floor, having pried it open. However, he was unable to complete his plan—the homeowner spotted the thief, scared him off, and detained him until the police arrived.

Investigators established the identity of the detainee. He turned out to be a previously unconvicted 21-year-old Muscovite. It was revealed that he had deliberately broken into the house because he knew there was a safe with valuables inside.

Investigators initiated a criminal case under part 3 of Article 30 and part 3 of Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation—attempted theft with illegal entry into a dwelling.

The suspect has been taken into custody. He is also being checked for involvement in other crimes.

Earlier, it was reported that a Nizhny Novgorod resident with a pistol attempted to steal vodka worth 519 rubles. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
