Vladimir Groysman, the head of the "Compassion - NN" shelter, spoke about how stray dogs and cats are protected in the Nizhny Novgorod region during a broadcast on the radio "Komsomolskaya Pravda Nizhny Novgorod." Vladimir Groysman noted that there are more animals in the Nizhny Novgorod shelter that previously lived at home but were abandoned. Often, owners leave severely ill pets with volunteers because they do not know how to cope with the illness. "Recently, a cat was left at the shelter's door; it overturned the carrier and ran away, and there was a busy highway nearby. Fortunately, it was found nearby at a gas station. But the cat did not survive because it was not treated, and the injuries were already in the final stage," Groysman said.

      In Russia, including the Nizhny Novgorod region, issues of protecting citizens from attacks by stray dogs are also being considered. This year, only 16 reports of bites by stray animals were recorded in Nizhny Novgorod, while reports of attacks by owned dogs exceeded a thousand. The shelter advocates for sterilized non-aggressive dogs to be released back into the wild, as they do not pose a danger. "Before the elections, the deputies are 'charging in like a tank' to change the laws on stray animals and start killing them. But there are no other levers of influence right now. Our region is on the right path, which is why our social tension has decreased," Groysman emphasized.
