More than 80 participants arrived in the Nizhny Novgorod region for an ecological expedition.

      In the Nizhny Novgorod region, the sixth Mendeleev ecological expedition is taking place from August 10 to 16. The research project of the State Corporation "Rosatom" has brought together more than 80 schoolchildren, students, and teachers from 14 cities in Russia.

      The expedition includes representatives from the Nizhny Novgorod, Saratov, and Kirov regions, Udmurtia, as well as Irkutsk, Usolye-Sibirskoye, Shchuchye, Novosibirsk, Pskov, and Moscow. Participants from Nizhny Novgorod and Dzerzhinsk are involved in the project from the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      The team also includes students from "Mendeleev classes" and their teachers, students and professors from regional universities, as well as winners of the All-Russian competition "Big Change" in the category "Save Nature!".

      During the week, participants conduct their own ecological research. They take samples of water and soil, assess the state of ecosystems, and study the impact of natural and technogenic factors on the environment.

      The expedition route passes through various territories of the Nizhny Novgorod region. It includes the Kerzhensky State Biosphere Reserve, the eco-trail "Volga Valley," the science city of Sarov, and other points in the region.

      Participants compare the ecological state of territories with different natural conditions and levels of technogenic impact. Field studies are complemented by laboratory work.

      Scientific lectures by experts from the D.I. Mendeleev Russian Chemical and Technological University and the Sergo Ordzhonikidze Moscow State Mining University are also organized for participants. Specialists discuss modern ecological challenges, the activities of specially protected natural areas, and the use of mathematical models for predicting changes in ecosystems.

      The results of the team's research will be presented on August 16, the final day of the expedition. Presentations will be prepared based on their own observations, measurements, and laboratory data.

      The project is implemented by the State Corporation "Rosatom" with the assistance of the Autonomous Non-Profit Organization "Energy of Development," the network of Information Centers for Atomic Energy, the Federal State Unitary Enterprise "FEO," and universities of the Federal Scientific and Educational Consortium "Advanced EcoTechnologies."
