In the Nizhny Novgorod region, 34 thousand donations have been made since the beginning of the year.

      Since the beginning of 2026, nearly 34,000 voluntary blood donations and its components have been made in the Nizhny Novgorod region. To date, residents of the region have donated whole blood more than 28,600 times, plasma more than 4,100 times, and platelets over 1,200 times.

      From January to July, 17,200 residents of the region have already realized their donor potential. As noted by specialists from the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Blood Center named after N. Ya. Klimova, donor acceptance is conducted based on requests from medical institutions in the region, taking into account blood phenotypes.

      Currently, there is a high demand for donors with O (I), A (II), and B (III) blood types with a negative Rh factor. There is also a planned need for the procurement of blood components A (II) with a positive Rh factor. Other blood components are available in sufficient quantities, so some volunteers can wait before their next donation visit.

      The chief freelance transfusiologist of the Ministry of Health of the Nizhny Novgorod region, the chief physician of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Blood Center named after N. Ya. Klimova, Sergey Abramov, thanked the Nizhny Novgorod donors. He emphasized that significant logistical work is being carried out at the institution: the number and volume of donor campaigns, the percentage of new participants involved in the donor movement, corporate factors, and other criteria are taken into account.

      "To date, more than 32,600 people are regular helpers of our Blood Service. In percentage terms, the regularity of visits by Nizhny Novgorod residents is 96.1%. The number of new donors increases every year. Special attention is paid to renewing the donor pool, especially among young people. Since the beginning of this year, more than 1,300 people have made their donations for the first time in our region," explained Sergey Abramov.

      It is worth noting that, in addition to organizing the process of blood and its component donation, a highly relevant area of work for specialists is the promotion of bone marrow and hematopoietic stem cell donation. Citizens aged 18 to 35 are invited to apply for entry into the Federal Register of Bone Marrow Donors, operated by the FMBA of Russia. This can be done through the "Gosuslugi" portal or by contacting the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Blood Center named after N. Ya. Klimova in person.

      In the region, donor acceptance is also conducted at the updated Nizhny Novgorod Plasma Center of the FMBA of Russia. The institution operates with the aim of procuring donor plasma and subsequently producing medicines from it, necessary for saving lives.
