49% of Nizhny Novgorod residents supported the abolition of the probation period for young mothers.

August 10, 2026 09:37 Society Almost half of the surveyed residents of Nizhny Novgorod approve of the ban on the probation period for hiring women with children under three years old. Specialists from the SuperJob service conducted a survey among economically active citizens and company representatives. In September 2026, a law will come into force in Russia, according to which employers will not be able to assign a probation period to women raising children under three years old, as well as to other legal guardians in the absence of the mother. The initiative was supported by 49% of respondents. At the same time, 22% opposed it, believing that a probation period is necessary to assess the professional qualities of an employee and should be the same for everyone. The rest had difficulty answering. Women approve of the innovation more often than men—54% versus 44%. Among mothers, support is even higher—67%. Overall, among parents of children under three years old, 68% of respondents expressed support for the abolition of the probation period. The initiative received the greatest support from citizens aged 35 to 45. It is also more often approved by respondents with an income of up to 150,000 rubles (53%), while among those earning more, the level of support was 40%. Employers assessed the initiative cautiously: 35% of company representatives spoke out against it, 33% supported it, and another 32% were undecided. It was previously reported that a draft amendment to a number of regional laws regulating the free provision of land plots to large families has been submitted to the Legislative Assembly.
