      On August 6, 2026, at 12:58, Politics Nizhny Novgorod and the capital of the Kyrgyz Republic, Bishkek, officially became sister cities. The cooperation agreement was signed by the parties at the VIII Russian-Kyrgyz Economic Forum (18+). For Nizhny Novgorod, Bishkek has become the 24th sister city, the press service of the city administration reported. Nizhny Novgorod Mayor Yuri Shalabaev noted that despite the distance between the cities, they have much in common.

      "They are major administrative, industrial, and cultural centers of their countries, important transport hubs. Each of them has developed machine engineering, science, and education, with leading universities and enterprises operating. Nizhny Novgorod and Bishkek have a rich history and carefully preserve their traditions while actively modernizing: new social facilities are being built, public spaces are being updated, and the urban environment is being developed," emphasized the city head.

      The agreement opens new opportunities for experience exchange and the implementation of joint projects in the economy, education, and culture. Cooperation is set to begin this year. Currently, the parties are preparing a roadmap that will outline the main areas of interaction between the cities until 2028. First Deputy Mayor of Bishkek Kubanychbek Imanaliev confirmed that the Kyrgyz side is interested in joint projects. These include participation in the international forum "Sister Cities and Partners" (12+) in Nizhny Novgorod, presentations of tourism potential, sports tournaments, participation of creative teams in festivals, as well as Kyrgyz masters in the exhibition-fair "Secrets of Masters" (0+) and musicians in the jazz festival "Autumn in Switzerland" (6+). During the forum, Russian President Vladimir Putin also addressed the participants. He announced plans to open a joint training center in Nizhny Novgorod with Kyrgyz partners in the field of information technology and cybersecurity.
