A U-turn will be prohibited at the former traffic police post on the Nizhny Novgorod - Kstovo highway.

      On August 5, 2026, at 12:40, Society Drivers will soon be prohibited from making U-turns on the Nizhny Novgorod - Kstovo highway near the old traffic police post. Barrier fences are being installed in this area, reports pravda-nn.ru, citing the regional transport ministry.

      As explained by the agency, the section near the old traffic police post has long been considered accident-prone. Due to heavy traffic and speed limits, U-turns here have repeatedly caused serious accidents.

      The decision to ban the maneuver was made after analyzing the traffic situation. Specialists conducted modeling and found that physically separating oncoming traffic flows would help reduce the number of accidents. Therefore, a metal barrier will be installed on the road, which will eliminate U-turns and left turns in this area.

      It is expected that this will not only enhance safety but also increase the road's capacity.

      Drivers will now have to use the nearest interchanges. Those traveling from Nizhny Novgorod towards Kstovo will be able to make a U-turn at the overpass near the Starokstovo cemetery. Motorists heading from Kstovo to Nizhny Novgorod will need to use the interchange near the village of Opalikh.

      It is worth noting that the additional distance for drivers heading to Kstovo will be only 1.35 km. However, those traveling towards Nizhny Novgorod will have to travel 5.88 km more.

      The transport ministry apologized for the temporary inconvenience and asked for understanding regarding the changes, as the new restrictions are being introduced to enhance road safety.
