As reported to the portal "Living in Nizhny" by the regional government’s administration, the birds help regulate the population of mouse-like rodents. The owls took over an old nest of a gray crow. Now most of the chicks have already fledged, spread across the Kremlin, and are hunting rodents independently. One of the owlets was injured during attacks by gray crows: its flight feathers were damaged, which deprived it of the ability to fly. The bird was sent for rehabilitation. The administration noted that the Kremlin's mouse-like rodents, the red field voles, have noticeably multiplied this year and are causing damage to flower beds. They provide a good food base for the birds. "There is hope that the grown owlets will bring the population of unruly flowerbed pests to acceptable levels," the administration noted.
