      The government of the Nizhny Novgorod region has approved lists of dangerous invasive plants in the territory of the region. The corresponding resolution has been published on the legal information portal.

      These are plants that are not classified as quarantine objects or weeds, but are subject to detection, prevention of spread, and destruction.

      Two lists have been approved - for specially protected natural areas of regional and local significance and for the rest of the region's territory. Only one species has been included in both lists - Sosnowski's hogweed.

      It should be noted that the formation of the list was enshrined in the regional law on combating hogweed, which was adopted in February. It provides for liability for failure to take measures - fines of up to 50,000 rubles for individuals and up to 700,000 rubles for legal entities. The federal law introducing sanctions for hogweed and other invasive plants came into force on March 1.

      The NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" editorial team found out that fines in the region have not yet been issued, as the list had not been approved.

      Also, it was previously reported that a pilot project for the use of artificial intelligence to detect Sosnowski's hogweed has been launched in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
