The second metro shield is preparing to start tunneling in Nizhny Novgorod.

      On July 24, 2026, at 10:43, Society In Nizhny Novgorod, preparations for the launch of the second tunnel boring machine are nearing completion. It is being prepared for launch in the assembly pit behind the "Gorkovskaya" station, reported the MAX channel "Metro NN". Specialists from the general contractor, along with equipment manufacturers from China, have completed the main stage of preparing the complex. The head part of the machine has been assembled in the starting pit, with the motor plate, pressure chamber, protective skirt, rotor, screw, and block layer installed. All elements have already been integrated into a single system with electrical and traction equipment. Currently, workers are connecting the electricity, checking the operation of the traction mechanisms, and finishing the setup of the conveyor system. The belt conveyor has already been installed, and the equipment is undergoing testing. According to the GC "Mosproject-3", the second machine is expected to start tunneling in the coming days. Recall that the first machine, "Yevdokiya," was launched on May 28. "Yevdokiya" has already passed the first 100 meters. After that, the machine switched to tunneling according to the main scheme until the next scheduled maintenance. It was also previously reported that over 20 billion rubles are allocated in the budget of Nizhny Novgorod for the extension of the metro to the "Sennaya" station for the years 2026-2027.
