      Users of the State Services have started receiving notifications about the approaching deadline for water meter verification. From May to July 2026, the service sent out more than 500,000 such notifications. Messages automatically appear in the personal account on the State Services portal and are additionally sent to the user's email. The notification contains information about the metering device, the verification deadline, and a link to the "State Services Home" application, where users can submit a request for verification or report an error in the meter data. Reminders are generated automatically based on data from the GIS Housing and Utilities and are sent when the owner needs to schedule verification. Verification is necessary to confirm the correct operation of the meter. If the verification deadline has passed, the meter readings may stop being counted, and the water charge will begin to be calculated based on the norm. Usually, such calculations are higher than actual consumption, so a delay can lead to increased utility costs. Users can submit a request for verification in the "State Services Home" application. In the service, users can choose the metering device, familiarize themselves with the cost of the service, and send a request to an accredited organization from the official register of Rosakkreditsiya. After the request is confirmed, it remains to agree on a convenient time for the specialist's visit. "Together with the Ministry of Digital Development of Russia, a notification service has been launched on the State Services portal regarding the need for verification of metering devices. The new mechanism will allow owners to receive timely reminders through the Unified Portal of State and Municipal Services, not to miss verification deadlines, and to avoid charges based on average or normative rates instead of charges based on the readings of metering devices," said Konstantin Mikhaylik, Deputy Minister of Construction and Housing and Utilities of the Russian Federation. "In recent years, fraudulent schemes related to the verification of metering devices have emerged. Malefactors pose as employees of utility or energy supply organizations, informing citizens about an allegedly upcoming visit from a technician to replace or verify the meter and, under various pretexts, attempt to obtain confirmation codes from State Services. The new service creates a clear guideline: if the verification deadline for the meter has approached, the user will receive an official notification on State Services with the option to order the service from an accredited laboratory in the "State Services Home" application. This will help distinguish official information from the actions of fraudsters and also reduce the risk of contacting organizations that do not have accreditation for conducting verification," said Alexander Kondeev, Deputy General Director of the Information System Operator JSC. "Verification is not a formality, but a confirmation that the water meter is functioning correctly. Over time, the device may start showing inaccurate data, so it is important to undergo verification in a timely manner. This helps avoid unnecessary expenses and maintain billing based on actual consumption," emphasized Anton Shalaev, head of Rosstandart.
