The first liturgy in 103 years took place at the Trinity Cathedral of the women's monastery in Vyksa.

On July 16, 2026, at 15:50, Society. On July 14, the first Divine Liturgy since the closure of the monastery in 1923 was held at the Trinity Cathedral of the Vyksa Iversky Women's Monastery. The service was led by Metropolitan Georgy of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas.

Present at the service were Dmitry Grachev, Deputy Minister of Internal Regional and Municipal Policy of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Vladimir Kochetkov, Head of Vyksa, Anatoly Sedykh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the United Metallurgical Company, as well as representatives of the clergy and parishioners.

After the service, Bishop Gideon of Vyksa and Pavlovsk thanked Metropolitan Georgy for his archpastoral care. He noted that just a few years ago, holding a liturgy in the restoring Trinity Cathedral seemed impossible. According to him, there had been no services in the church for over a hundred years, and this year also marks the 30th anniversary of the revival of the Iversky Monastery. The bishop thanked everyone who participated and continues to participate in the restoration of the monastery and the cathedral.

After this, Bishop Gideon presented Metropolitan Georgy with an icon of the Holy Trinity and a model of the Trinity Cathedral.

In turn, Metropolitan Georgy emphasized that the Trinity Cathedral is a spiritual pearl of the Vyksa land, created by the labors of previous generations. He reminded everyone of the spiritual legacy of St. Varnaava of Gethsemane and St. Seraphim of Vyritsa, who, even before taking monastic vows, was one of the benefactors of the cathedral's construction.

"Let us pray to the Lord for the blessing of our further efforts to revive the cathedral, so that for many people it may become a spiritual beacon and help them find their way to the Lord," said the head of the Nizhny Novgorod Metropolis, thanking everyone who participated in the restoration of the shrine.

Metropolitan Georgy also expressed gratitude to Anatoly Sedykh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the UMC, for supporting the monastery and gifted him an image of St. Seraphim of Vyritsa.

At the end, all participants in the service were given icons of the Holy Trinity. Then, the archpastors laid flowers on the grave of the former abbess of the Iversky Monastery, Abbess Antonina (Mironova), who passed away in 2020.
