Doctor Kuzmenko explained how to act correctly when suspecting a heart attack.
July 15, 2026 19:25 Society Myocardial infarction is an acute situation in which the blood supply to part of the heart muscle is disrupted, leading to its death. According to WHO information, cardiovascular diseases remain the leading cause of mortality worldwide. About 70% of myocardial infarction cases are diagnosed in men, in whom this disease typically manifests 7-10 years earlier than in women. At the same time, the symptoms of a heart attack in women and men do not differ, as reported by physician-therapist and medical blogger Philipp Kuzmenko in an interview with 360.ru. Among the main symptoms are severe pain behind the sternum, a feeling of pressure or burning, severe shortness of breath, cold sweat, and fear of death. "In general, unforgettable sensations," he said. According to the doctor, in this case, the "five-minute rule" applies: if a heart attack is suspected, it is necessary to call an ambulance as soon as possible. "Basically, you need to call an ambulance and describe the symptoms in detail, explain these symptoms to the dispatcher so that they understand on the other side that it is a heart attack, and then a resuscitation team will respond to the call, not a regular emergency team," he explained. Kuzmenko urged not to experiment with medications, including nitroglycerin. Self-medication can be harmful. "And, in principle, do nothing else; for ordinary people, this is the most reliable recommendation. Well, or if people feel they have some knowledge in medicine, they can take 300 milligrams of aspirin. [...] If they are absolutely sure it is a heart attack," the doctor added.
