The incidence of "mouse fever" has increased by 12% in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

On July 15, 2026, 13:13 Society In the Nizhny Novgorod region, the results of infectious morbidity for the first half of 2026 were summarized. As reported by Natalia Sadykova, Deputy Head of the Rospotrebnadzor Department for the Nizhny Novgorod Region, at a press conference at the NIOC, most indicators during this period decreased; however, for several infections and reasons for seeking medical help, doctors noted an increase. For instance, the incidence of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS), known as "mouse fever," increased by 12%, while the number of inquiries after animal bites rose by 10%. At the same time, a decrease was noted for several diseases. The incidence of salmonellosis decreased by 12%, acute intestinal infections by 7%, tuberculosis by 30%, acute hepatitis by 1.4 times, COVID-19 by 1.8 times, pneumonia by 1.6 times, and ARVI by 18%. Despite the decrease in the number of intestinal infections, Rospotrebnadzor urged caution when choosing public catering establishments. Specialists recommend preferring verified cafes, monitoring compliance with sanitary standards, and choosing dishes that have undergone thorough thermal processing. The number of cases of dysentery and scarlet fever has also decreased threefold, chickenpox by two times, and the incidence of generalized meningococcal infection has decreased by 2.3 times. Additionally, the number of inquiries due to tick bites has decreased by 18%. Specialists reminded about protective measures against ticks. After walks in nature, it is recommended to carefully inspect clothing and the body, and if a tick is found, to remove it as soon as possible and send it for examination within two days. Analyzing the tick helps doctors decide on the need for emergency prevention of tick-borne encephalitis. "I can confidently say that over the past three years, the majority of infectious pathology has been declining. After the coronavirus pandemic, we observed an increase in morbidity for almost all nosologies for about three years," Sadykova said. Specialists note that the situation with natural focal infections, primarily with HFRS, remains tense. It is possible to get sick in almost any area of the region, so residents of Nizhny Novgorod are advised to exercise caution when visiting natural areas. Another problem remains animal bites. Rospotrebnadzor reminded that after any bite, especially if the wound is deep or located in the head and neck area, it is necessary to seek medical help as soon as possible. Delaying a visit to the doctor is not advisable; if necessary, the victim will be prescribed vaccination or the administration of immunoglobulin. According to Natalia Sadykova, residents of the region are most often bitten by dogs, and often these are not stray animals, but pets that owners let off the leash or do not keep tied up. Earlier, it was reported that those who were poisoned in a cafe in the center of Nizhny Novgorod were discharged from the hospital. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
