Swimming is allowed in 11 water bodies of the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      On July 10, 2026, at 16:00, the Regional Office of Rospotrebnadzor expanded the list of water bodies in the Nizhny Novgorod region suitable for swimming. The weekly list of the agency, based on laboratory research results, included 11 water bodies.

      In Nizhny Novgorod, the following places were recognized as safe for swimming: the Third Lake of the Shchelokovsky Farm in the Soviet District, the first and second stage lakes of the PKiO in the Avtozavodsky District, the Silicate Lake in the Lenin District, and the Svetloyarskoye Lake from the side of Gaugel Street in the Sormovsky District.

      In the region, it is possible to relax at the "408 km" pond and the Tyosha River in Arzamas, the lake at Krutaya Gora in Bogorodsk, the Yurasov Lake on Bor, at the city beach on the Volga in Lyskov, as well as at the Upper Pond (all three beaches) in Vyksa.

      Before visiting the beach, specialists recommend checking the agency's website to confirm whether swimming is allowed in the chosen water body.

      When choosing a recreation spot, attention should be paid to the improvement of the area: the presence of trash bins, benches, shaded canopies, changing cabins, cleaning schedules, and a rescue point. Public toilets should be nearby.

      Visitors are advised to bring a hat, drinking water, a towel, and an umbrella. Sunbathing is better in the morning and afternoon hours.

      It is prohibited to drink water from water bodies, wash vegetables and dishes in it, or rinse the mouth. Alcohol consumption and swimming while intoxicated are also not recommended. Additionally, it is not advisable to relax with pets on the beaches or leave trash behind.

      Swimming should only be done in specially equipped and permitted places, trying to avoid getting water in the mouth. If this happens, it is necessary to rinse the mouth with bottled water and monitor one's well-being. If it worsens, medical assistance should be sought.

      After swimming, specialists recommend taking a shower.
