The court approved the sentence for the former deputy governor of Nizhny Novgorod for the embezzlement of 247 million rubles.
On July 9, 2026, at 11:53, Incidents The Nizhny Novgorod Regional Court reviewed the appeals of the prosecutor's office and the defense of the former developer and ex-deputy governor of the region, Valery Anglichaninov, but did not change the previously issued sentence. Anglichaninov was found guilty of embezzling 247 million rubles from participants in shared construction. In January 2026, the court sentenced the former official to 6 years in prison for embezzling funds from investors during the construction of the "House on Gorky" in the center of Nizhny Novgorod. At the same time, the prosecutor's office sought a harsher punishment and requested a ten-year prison term. Anglichaninov himself did not admit his guilt. He claimed that the construction was delayed due to the start of work on the new metro station and also asserted that the project was allegedly controlled by the founder of the SU-155 holding, Mikhail Balakin, who left Russia. Previously, Anglichaninov had already been sentenced to four years in prison for violating construction deadlines for housing for military personnel in Chekhov, Moscow region. The punishment in the "House on Gorky" case was assigned taking this sentence into account. Subsequently, the problem of deceived investors was addressed by regional authorities. To complete the construction of the facility, the company "Khutir," owned by former deputy governor Anton Averin, was involved. Following the review of the appeals, the regional court found no grounds for changing the sentence, so the imposed term remained in force, reports "Kommersant-Privolzhye."
