The Nizhny Novgorod FSB has disrupted the funding channel for Syrian terrorists.

      July 9, 2026 16:29 Incidents Employees of the Nizhny Novgorod FSB, together with colleagues from Karelia, have disrupted a channel for financing international terrorism, the press service of the regional security agency reported. According to the agency, the 2nd Western District Military Court issued a guilty verdict to a 28-year-old foreign national. He was found guilty under part 1.1 of article 205.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation - assisting terrorist activities by financing terrorism. According to the court, the amount of donations totaled 18,900 rubles. A criminal case was initiated and investigated by FSB investigators in Karelia. During operational-search activities, FSB officers from two regions, with the support of OMON, detained the suspect in Nizhny Novgorod. After the arrest, he was taken into custody. The court established that the convicted individual was involved in collecting funds and subsequently transferring them to participants of an international terrorist organization ("Hayat Tahrir al-Sham," banned in Russia). The court sentenced the man to 9 years in prison. He will spend the first three years in prison, and the remaining part of the sentence in a strict regime correctional colony. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force. It was previously reported that an SBU agent was sentenced to 21 years for preparing terrorist acts in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
