Nizhny Novgorod region has become one of the leaders in the Volga Federal District in terms of credit availability.

      July 9, 2026 16:48 Economy The Nizhny Novgorod region has found itself among the leaders of the Volga Federal District in terms of the availability of retail loans. As reported by the IA "NTA-Volga" citing the National Bureau of Credit Histories, the region demonstrates one of the lowest rejection rates for applications among the subjects of the Volga Federal District. In June 2026, the rejection rate for all types of retail loans in Russia was 77.8%. This includes consumer and POS loans, credit cards, auto loans, and mortgages. After four months of continuous decline, the indicator rose by 2.7 percentage points. In May 2026, it was at 75.1%. However, compared to June of last year, the nationwide rejection rate has hardly changed. In the Volga Federal District, banks implement the most lenient credit policies in Mordovia, Nizhny Novgorod, and Kirov regions. Residents of Orenburg, Bashkortostan, and Saratov regions most frequently face rejections. In Nizhny Novgorod region, the rejection rate in June 2026 was 74.0% compared to 73.8% a year earlier. The increase was minimal—only 0.2 percentage points. By this indicator, the region appears more stable than many of its neighbors in the district. For comparison, in Saratov region, the rejection rate decreased from 78.5% to 77.7% (-0.8 p.p.), in Udmurtia—from 75.0% to 74.6% (-0.4 p.p.), and in Perm Krai, the indicator hardly changed and stood at 77.2% (+0.1 p.p.). Alexey Volkov, the marketing director of the National Bureau of Credit Histories, explained that after four months of decline, the rejection rate for retail loan applications noticeably increased in June. According to him, under the conditions of a tight monetary policy, including serious restrictions on lending to citizens with high debt burdens, banks continue to maintain a cautious approach to risks.
