Film studios were left without compensation for filming in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      On July 9, 2026, at 11:39, Culture and Leisure: The rebate program, which provides compensation for part of the costs to film companies shooting in the Nizhny Novgorod region, has been temporarily suspended. This was reported by the NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" from the regional Ministry of Culture. The department emphasized that the region is still interested in implementing the project. However, considering the current macroeconomic situation, they plan to revisit the issue of its resumption later. It should be noted that the film industry support program has been in effect in the region since 2021 by the order of Governor Gleb Nikitin. Filmmakers could compensate up to 60% of the costs for shooting in the Nizhny Novgorod region. The amount of the subsidy increased if there was an agreement on distribution, if the shooting in the region lasted more than 30 days, and if the plot was related to Nizhny Novgorod's history. By the end of 2024, subsidies were received by the creators of five projects: the detective "Evil People" (18+), the comedy "There" (16+), the films "Wolf" (16+) and "Maestro" (16+), as well as the series "Manya and Grunya" (16+). In 2025, 20 million rubles were allocated for the payment of rebates. It was previously reported that in 2026, at least six projects would be filmed in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
