103 people died in a traffic accident in the Nizhny Novgorod region in 2026.
On July 9, 2026, at 12:28, Incidents: According to the results of the first half of 2026, there has been a 7.4% decrease in traffic accidents in the Nizhny Novgorod region. This was reported at a press conference at the Nizhny Novgorod Information Center, dedicated to the launch of a social campaign for safety at intersections, by the acting head of the regional traffic police, Police Major Sergey Korobko, as reported by a correspondent from NIA "Nizhny Novgorod."
According to him, over six months, 1,815 road traffic accidents were registered in the region, which is 7.4% less than in the same period last year. In these accidents, 103 people died, which is also 7.4% lower than last year's figure. The number of injured amounted to 2,288 people, a decrease of 9.9%.
Sergey Korobko stated that the overwhelming majority of traffic accidents are related to violations of traffic rules by drivers. Collisions are the most common, with 811 such cases registered. Pedestrian accidents were recorded 421 times, and 120 cases involved vehicles leaving the road. There were also 157 accidents related to crossing into oncoming traffic.
Among the main violations are non-compliance with speed limits according to specific traffic conditions (245 accidents), exceeding the established speed limit (184), failure to observe the order of passage (202), and crossing into oncoming traffic (157).
The police major paid special attention to accidents at intersections. Over the past six months, there were 557 accidents there, resulting in 23 deaths and 746 injuries of varying severity. The main causes of such incidents, according to him, were running a red light, incorrect determination of the order of movement, and ignoring priority signs.
"The decrease in accident rates is influenced by both driver discipline and seasonal factors. This year, winter was snowy, and many used personal transport less frequently. Preventive social campaigns also play an important role—they help stabilize the situation with accident rates," emphasized Korobko in response to a question from a correspondent of NIA "Nizhny Novgorod."
It was previously reported that the number of road traffic accidents has also decreased in Nizhny Novgorod. In 2026, there were 91 fewer accidents—totaling 623 accidents.
