VTB: in the first half of the year, the auto loan market grew by more than 40%
July 7, 2026 18:11 Economy According to preliminary estimates by VTB, from January to June, Russians took out about 894 billion rubles from banks for car purchases — 41% more than in the first half of 2025. Against the backdrop of the holiday season, June disbursements slowed down: the growth was only 1% compared to May, reaching 174 billion rubles. However, this is 31% higher than June of last year, confirming a confident market recovery. Among the regions, Moscow and the Moscow region traditionally maintain leadership: here, VTB issued more than 17.5 billion rubles for car purchases over the half-year. The top three also includes St. Petersburg with the Leningrad region (over 6.1 billion rubles) and the Krasnodar region (over 3.6 billion rubles). "Sales in the first half of the year exceeded our expectations. The key driver is the demand for new cars: new vehicles are more attractive due to government support, while the used car segment is still restrained by high market rates. The active involvement of manufacturers in subsidizing rates is another significant driver," commented Alexey Okhorzin, Senior Vice President and Head of the Retail Business Products Department at VTB.
