The children's trip to eco-camps turned into a criminal case in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
July 7, 2026 17:24 Incidents A criminal case has been initiated following the deterioration of children's health during specialized educational camps in the Perevozsky district. This was reported by the press service of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod region. The case has been classified under part 1 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (provision of services that do not meet the safety requirements for the life and health of consumers). As part of the investigation, witnesses are being interrogated, including the organizers of the camps. Investigators are also requesting and reviewing documentation related to the provision of services for organizing children's meals. It is clarified that all minors who sought medical assistance received it in full. Currently, as specified by the Investigative Committee, their lives and health are not in danger. Following procedural checks, a legal assessment of the incident will be made. It should be noted that the environmental camp in the Perevozsky district was prematurely concluded after numerous complaints from children about their deteriorating health. On the night after dinner, teenagers began to complain of stomach pains, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, and fever; some were taken to the infectious diseases department, and an ambulance was called to the camp. Parents reported a large number of sick children and suggested that the cause could be dinner, as well as violations of sanitary standards in the dining hall and unsatisfactory living conditions—children allegedly saw insects and rodents in the camp. The official reason for closing the camp was cited as an accident on the heating main and lack of hot water. According to the camp, only a few children sought medical help for mild ailments, and the deterioration in health could be related to the heat. The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing is conducting an inspection, and the situation is under the control of the regional Ministry of Education.
