Nizhny Novgorod residents can submit applications for the "Common Memory" competition.

      Residents of the Nizhny Novgorod region can participate in the international competition "Common Memory. The Genocide of the Soviet People by the Nazis and their Accomplices during the Great Patriotic War." The competition aims to preserve the historical truth about the crimes of the Nazis and their accomplices against the Soviet people. Citizens of the Russian Federation and foreign countries aged 14 to 35 are invited to participate. Works are accepted in nine nominations. In the nomination "Journalistic Works," essays and articles based on archival documents and memories are considered, revealing the fates of genocide victims and the topic of the evacuation of the civilian population, including from besieged Leningrad. The nomination "Memorial Objects and Improvement of Burial Sites" involves creating sketches, 3D models, architectural concepts, and projects for the improvement of territories and the installation of memorials at the burial sites of victims. Within the nomination "Search Work and Restoration of Fates," presentation-reports on field search work, identification of previously unknown names, and places of mass death are accepted. The nomination "Scientific Research Works" is focused on articles and theses based on historical sources, using unpublished archival documents that reveal little-studied aspects of the genocide of the Soviet people. In the nomination "Video Projects," the creation of educational videos lasting up to 10 minutes is planned, with mandatory annotations for scenes. The use of artificial intelligence technologies is allowed, provided that the works are based on historical sources. In the nomination "Routes of Historical Memory," projects for excursion routes are developed, including places of mass burial, memorial complexes, and other objects related to genocide, as well as audio guides and methodological materials in Russian. The nomination "Places of Memory" involves preparing historical essays about memorial locations with the inclusion of archival documents, memories, and lists of genocide victims of the Soviet people during the Great Patriotic War. In the nomination "Fates of Soviet Prisoners of War," research works, family archives, documentary files, digital databases, and memorial projects reflecting the tragedy of Soviet prisoners of war in Nazi camps and places of forced detention, as well as aimed at restoring the names of the deceased, are accepted. The nomination "No Statute of Limitations" includes essays and stories dedicated to the persecution, identification, and punishment of Nazis and their accomplices by the investigative authorities of the USSR and the Russian Federation.

      The competition is held in two stages. The first, remote stage will last until September 25, 2026. During this period, the acceptance of competition works is carried out. Evaluation by the expert council is scheduled from September 26 to October 15, 2026. The second stage, in-person, will take place by November 1, 2026. Participants who pass the selection will present their works in the format of presentations. An educational program is provided for them, including visits to memorial complexes and places of memory, working with archival documents, master classes, and expert lectures.
