Nizhny Novgorod residents are invited to participate in the competition "Let's Throw."

      Residents of the Nizhny Novgorod region are invited to participate in the all-Russian online competition "Let's Quit," aimed at supporting those who have decided to quit smoking. The initiative is being implemented as part of the national project "Sustained and Active Life." The competition takes place in the "Let's Quit" community on the social network "VKontakte" (https://vk.com/davaibrosat). The platform unites more than 40,000 participants who receive round-the-clock support from specialists and like-minded individuals. The community publishes expert materials on the nature of nicotine addiction, methods of combating it, and stories of people who have successfully quit smoking.

      To participate, you need to subscribe to the community and post on your "VKontakte" page a story on the topic "I quit/I'm quitting smoking to..." with a photo or video and the hashtag #Let'sQuit. Entries are accepted until August 16. Winners of weekly draws will receive subscriptions to media services. The grand prize is a trip for two to the Kuril Islands.

      According to WHO, smoking remains one of the most common preventable causes of death: more than 8 million people die each year worldwide from its consequences. Tobacco use increases the risk of lung cancer by 10-20 times, doubles the likelihood of heart attack and stroke, and shortens life expectancy by 10-15 years. At the same time, more than two-thirds of smokers want to quit this addiction.

      In Russia, efforts to reduce the prevalence of smoking are being carried out as part of the national project "Sustained and Active Life." As noted by Oksana Drapkina, director of the National Medical Research Center for Therapy and Preventive Medicine of the Ministry of Health of Russia, the key factor remains the personal decision of an individual to quit smoking.

      Risks can be identified and recommendations for quitting tobacco can be obtained during health screenings and preventive medical examinations at clinics where individuals are registered. Consultations are also available at Health Centers across the country and via the hotline at 8 (800) 200 0 200.
