More than 5,000 families in Nizhny Novgorod have improved their housing with the help of maternity capital.

      July 6, 2026 12:56 Economy More than 5,000 families in the Nizhny Novgorod region have used maternity capital funds to improve their housing conditions since the beginning of 2026. This was reported by the regional branch of the Social Fund of Russia. In the first six months of the year, 5,320 certificates for maternity capital were issued in the region. The certificate is automatically issued based on the data about the birth of a child, which is sent to the SFR branch. One of the most popular ways to use maternity capital in the region is for housing improvement. Funds can be spent on these purposes immediately after receiving the certificate. Parents have the right to use the money to pay off a mortgage, make a down payment on a loan for purchasing an apartment, or building a house. After three years from the birth of the child, the funds can be used for any of the purposes provided by law. An application for the disposal of maternity capital can be submitted online through the "Gosuslugi" portal, at the SFR client service, at the MFC, or at a bank if the money is for a down payment or repayment of a housing loan. The application is reviewed within five days. A notification of the decision is sent to the personal account on "Gosuslugi" or by mail if the parent is not registered on the portal.
